The Life of the Renegade Police Officer
The Renegade's life is characterized by personal conflicts that lead to predictable patterns of behavior.
When I had won my first election as Sheriff in Dorchester County, I had a young officer contact me about a job. I had given him his start in law enforcement when I was the Police Chief in Summerville and had been watching his career ever since. I knew his life was not where it needed to be.
So I invited him over to my house for a talk and shared with him the Dynamic of Authority. After drawing him the Authority diagram on a piece of paper, I asked him where he saw himself on the diagram. He pointed to where immorality and divorce appear on the
Path of Destruction.
I knew this was true. He had been having an affair with a woman that was not his wife and he was about to lose his wife and family to a divorce.
Subsequent to our conversation, he did lose his wife and family to a divorce, married the woman he had the affair with, and what do you think happened to them after about a year? You guessed it... a divorce.
You see, this becomes a predictable pattern of behavior for a renegade. Once we understand the underlying principles we can begin to predict the cause and effect outcomes.
