Overview of Leadership Principles

Police Dynamics is a series of leadership principles for ethical law enforcement. Over the last 28 years, my experiences as a police chief and sheriff caused me to ask some hard questions about the law enforcement profession.

Questions like:
"Why do we have the highest rates of divorce, alcoholism, domestic violence, and suicide of all professions?
"Why do citizens not trust us like they used to?"
"Why do officers keep having ethical failures?"
"Are there ways to improve police effectiveness and strengthen community relationships?"

The headlines attest to the problem:

    Cops Face Corruption Probe
    Tarnished Badges
Tougher Hiring Standards Needed for Police
Police Divorce Rates 20-50% Above Average
    Trooper Kills Self
    Chief, Officer Resign Under Controversy
Panel Tackles Issue of Problem Police
    Academy Strips Officer of Badge

After one of my officers killed his girlfriend and then killed himself, I began to dig deeper. My quest led to the "discovery" of a number of principles that I call Police Dynamics.

I have had the opportunity to present these leadership principles to thousands of officers, police executives and government leaders from around the world with great results. They are proven and time-tested in the real world – the world where criminals often rule and cops are bound by a code of silence.

Most instances of police failures and misconduct can be traced to a violation of one or more of these principles – principles that are character based and rooted in professional ethics.

If you’re looking for answers, just like I was, come explore these leadership principles in more detail . You will discover how they can have a tremendous impact on your life and the life of your law enforcement organization.

Each section contained in the navigation bar at the left focuses on one of the key elements of the training program. So, let’s get started…..
